SYDNEY | Ep. 10 Port Stephens

Travelling is an action that has to be led by both your heart and your head. They have to work together to create an experience that is truly worthwhile for you. This weekend I had the opportunity to go on a road trip with Coast Warriors Australia to Port Stephens. An amazing weekend where I learned saw and experienced so many new things I had never done or seen before. Together with a great group of lovely people we had an awesome experience, and right here right now, I’m sharing it with you!

On Friday the 8th of December we are expected to be perfectly packed and ready to go at 5 p.m. We meet at the schools student lounge and after a while head outside to meet our tour guide and driver, Trent. When the entire luggage is stored and everybody found a somewhat comfortable spot in the large van, it’s time to get going. We take a quick break at a supermarket to stretch our legs and get the groceries for the next day. Finally, a little after 10 p.m. we arrive at our hostel where we drop our belongings and make way to the beach to finish the day in a perfect way.

Up and going we are at 9 because after a quick breakfast, sand boarding is on the timetable. This was an amazing experience, as I never even snowboarded before! You take place on the most basic board and simply slide down a huge sand dune. After some practice, it’s time for the real thing: standing up. This went, after a few slips and slides, pretty good and was an amazing way to start the day energetically.

From the beach we go to the harbour and hop on a tour boat to take a look at the dolphins. At that time, the dolphins were hunting and very active which was great for taking some amazing pictures. After a while its was, of course, time to respect their natural behaviour and environment, so we went on to do a little sightseeing along the coast before heading back to a real Aussie BBQ.

After lunch we make our way to a different beach where we were able to get a taste of the real Aussie summers. There was a big group of people who had a huge BBQ together and made a waterslide into the water. We had such a fun time watching this spectacle and enjoying the beach. After some swimming and sunbathing, 2 friends, the tour guide, and I decide to go on a little adventure. Close by the beach there’s a big hill with a path leading all the way to the top. From there we had breathtaking views, no better way to digest all that Aussie food. The evening we, again, spend time on the beach, eating pizza, having some drinks and laughing or talking till the sun had set and the stars came out.

The next day we were able to sleep in, just a little bit, before packing all our stuff and heading out to the beach. After about an hour of relaxation we decide to slowly start going back to Sydney central. But before we go home, we are able to explore the Reptile Park where we see koalas, kangaroos, dingoes and many more animals. Here we have a late lunch, again an amazing BBQ, accompanied by hungry kangaroos trying to steal our food. And then, when we all went around the park, it’s unfortunately time to go back. The van rides are honestly a lot of fun, as we’re playing typical road trip music, talking to each other or taking a power nap. When we get to our drop off point back in Sydney we decide to grab a quick drink and some fried snacks with the whole group to end the weekend well.

This trip was honestly one of the best weekends I’ve had so far, and that is because of many reasons. From the gorgeous sights to the lovely people and the great feeling to be out of the city again for a while, it all collaborated with each other in such a natural and fun way. And even though I wrote this post with all my heart, I personally think that pictures can say so much more.
